I don’t believe myself to be a writer but I love to write! I’ve been keeping diaries on and off for years. I use diaries for two reasons:
- I document my travel adventures
- I document thoughts and feelings when I’m anxious or suffering a trauma
Since I had a break down in June I’ve been managing my anxiety in different ways. I tried medication for a very brief week which I decided against. My reasoning for seeking help from my doctor was because I wanted to make myself better for a work committment. Once he signed me off there was no way I was fit or capable enough to finish the job so that was when I began making my way home to Ireland and off the medication.
I had gone to councillors in the past which absolutely changed my life but it didn’t feel right this time. I toyed with the idea of going but in the end it wasn’t the right thing for me. Writing was my next way of coping. I wrote in my diary every day, sometimes more than once. If I was spiralling out of control with irrational thoughts, I’d stick them in the diary and I’d feel heaps better after.
Initially I wasn’t so sure I’d be able to leave Ireland and make my trip but I booked the flights, got myself a lot better over the summer in Ireland with support from friends and family and have managed to take on my big adventure. I turned 30 this year and promised myself a yoga course. This is how it all began.
The initial idea for this blog was how to cope with travelling with anxiety but since I started travelling my anxiety is getting a lot better. So instead of writing constantly about anxiety, these posts are really just my current adventures and how I’m feeling as I go along. Hope you enjoy reading!
